 Autotestosterone
Early Intervention Scheme

Educational stats show that Britain has the fifth highest drop out rate of 16 year olds amongst the developed world, whilst an alarming number of children who do complete their studies are unable to communicate, calculate or compute to good effect.  At a the very time that 700,000 youngsters are not in work or education, Britain is reliant on 700,000 hard working migrants to fill everyday jobs - as if to reinforce the point - recent calculations show that the current crop of truants will cost the British economy £2,000,000,000 during their lifetime!

We can argue whether it's due to poor guidance; lack of inspiration; questionable parenting; or the absence of good role models, but regardless of who's to blame, the cost to society (not to mention the economy) is unacceptable.  A cohesive, inclusive community is both healthy and fiscally advantageous to all - we cannot exist in isolation and expect not to be affected - the crime figures tell us that the repercussions spread far and wide, regardless of post code or leafy suburb.

Disengagement leads to truancy - absence leads to poor results - zero progress leads to an ill-equipped plunge into premature adulthood.  Low self esteem, the inability to communicate and the lack of meaningful qualifications render the likelihood of worthwhile employment near to nil (assuming any ambition to enter the job market in the first place).  Stalemate ensues, leaving the rest of society to complain of lack of respect, a growing drug culture and rising crime.

If the collective adult population fail to guide our collective sons and daughters through adolescence - we all suffer - collectively!  Mike Tomlinson advocated Vocational Training as the answer - yet the question remains how to steer such youngsters toward on-the-job training and work experience, for any system relies on students wanting to learn.  Kids who float through school or simply drop out, claim not to see the benefit of qualifications, so the challenge must be to make the learning process relevant and tangible.  Fortunately Autotestosterone can act as a 'teenage magnet' to draw young people into the learning programme.  Fortuitously, it can also deliver the 'need' for knowledge and personal education.

Sabotage rules... ok!

In its standard form, Autotestosterone is a tabletop motorsport challenge of huge proportion and complexity.  No longer the solo existence of youngsters peering at PCs, Autotestosterone caters for any number of players by forming two teams and there in lies its success - for this is a team game and it reminds us that we are communal beings, we enjoy interacting with other humans!  Mind you, that interaction may involve the desire to tear the head of your opponent, or even your team mate, for Autotestosterone encourages beastly behaviour!

Once you have been sabotaged only revenge will suffice, and team mate status can fluctuate from hero to zero and back within seconds, the burden of making team decisions.  Of course, as with sport, it is better to exercise such emotions within a controlled environment!  The challenge requires each player to effectively 'drive' their team car, by making the decisions you would on a competition track, and that includes handbrake turns, reverse spins, driving on two wheels, tackling hairpins, chicanes and high speed banked corners.  Oh yes, and sabotaging your opponent.  An all-action video highlights all these spectacular manoeuvres, and there in lay the basis for using Autotestosterone to help young people.

Tiff Needell arrives at the race circuit, all is calm - then - it happens!

Even an ex-F1 driver struggles to cope when he's Autotestosteroned!

Autotestosterone can act as an early intervention scheme to bring abandoned young people back into the fold and embed them in mentored apprenticeships within the automotive world for the simple reason that they accept it for what it is, great fun, exciting and politically incorrect.  When we invited Tiff Needell to be Autotestosteroned by the top display driver in the world (and filmed the process for our pilot video) the effect on the youngsters who helped (see above) was best summed up by a young man who said "it was the best two days of my life".  From that moment on it was apparent that Autotestosterone could be utilised for purposes other than having fun around the kitchen table!

The principle is to use the inherent attraction, glamour and excitement of being involved with the final development of Autotestosterone and its all-action-video as the initial carrot, whilst holding out the prospect of competing to gain mentored apprenticeships within the one area that does fascinate many young people, the automotive world.  To rub shoulders with the top drivers and TV presenters, be taught and tested on the real-life versions of the precision driving challenges in Autotestosterone and then compete head-to-head and replicate the actions of their heroes will be too great an attraction for many to resist.

Our task is to capitalise on that energy and stimulation to put the applicants through a series of physical challenges (see images on either side of this text) as step-by-step hurdles which have to be overcome for them to take part in motorsport-based treats.  The challenges are designed to progressively stretch each individual as part of a personal development plan; in many cases it will be the first time that the youngsters will be aware of achieving any target or goal, and should gradually boost their confidence and self esteem.  The tests will also encourage team work and introduce team building skills; even though they are competing individually, the act of coming together to collectively over come a hurdle will form a vital part of their development.

The ultimate objective is to use the treats and experiences to introduce the youngsters to personal realisations such as the need and usefulness of the ability to converse effectively, manipulate numbers, get on with all those around them and appreciate the buzz and satisfaction that many people get from their jobs - as opposed to them merely attending to earn money (as important as that may be).  Of course all of that would lead to the penny dropping as to the benefit of vocational training and education in general.

Ask the world's top TV display drivers to thrill an audience and even disillusioned youngsters are energised!  If you can use that energy to motivate, re-engage and educate, you can redeem young lives; if you capture that learning curve on film and project the positive peer pressure to influence millions of young minds - you help to minimise future youth disengagement.

The inventors of Autotestosterone and founders of this initiative are indebted to financial support from the Prince’s Trust, the Regional Government Agency Yorkshire Forward and Business Link and to help, support and interest from the Youth Offending Service, the Police, Politicians and York University.  If we are to help our young people we must think outside the box!
